On the morning of June 4, 2021 at the VCSO firing range, a 30 year old dream became a reality. Donors, the Helus family, VCSF Board members, County Officials and VCSO staff participated in a ground breaking ceremony for the Sgt. Helus Training Facility.

In 2018, Sgt. Ron Helus was killed at the Borderline Bar and Grill in Thousand Oaks, CA. Sgt. Helus had served in SWAT for the Ventura County Sheriff, an FBI certified firearms instructor and held thousands of hours of specialized training. Sgt. Helus believed that law enforcement should be adept in advanced firearm training.

With the spirit of Sgt. Helus’ ethos, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Foundation is building a legacy project: a live-fire training facility in his namesake for law enforcement in Ventura County.

Our community has generously provided financial support to make this a reality. We would like to acknowledge Alan Cohen, Ann and Paul DeMartini, Elizabeth Grossman, Gothic Landscape, Mastro’s Thousand Oaks, Rusnak Porsche- Westlake Village, Design Masonry, KB Homes and three anonymous donors amongst all the Ventura County community who have financially supported this project.
